History

India witnessed the introduction of FIBC’s during early 1990s and has since grown to be a frontline manufacturer in the world.

The History

The Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container popularly given the nomenclature as FIBC’s is said to have been first manufactured in the late 1950s / early 1960s in the United States of America, Europe, and Japan more or less in tandem. However, FIBC’s manufactured with polyolefin fabrics experimented in the UK, Canada, and the USA in the early 1970s just about the time that the Raffia Tape and weaving technology surfaced globally.

The growth of the Flexible intermediate bulk bags that are universally used today got a major boost with the development of the high strength lightweight fabric (polypropylene). India witnessed the introduction of FIBC’s during the early 1990s and has since grown to be a frontline manufacturer in the world. India has a large domestic market that is growing at a reasonable pace, but we are keen to internationalize and move our FIBC products across nations. As a country we find many advantages to be part of the world trade. Foreign exchange, production efficiency, untapped markets, and learning good practices are a few of them. The manufacturing industry has found export acceptance in nearly 65 countries in 6 continents with nearly eighty-five percent of Production being exported. This provides the Indian exchequer excellent Foreign Exchange earnings. Both the domestic demand and exports are envisaged to record exponential growth potential in this decade from 2020 to 2030.

IFIBCA was established in 2004 as the first industry association supporting manufacturing of Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers when India’s FIBC Industry was still in its infancy. Since then, IFIBCA has established itself as an interactive forum for FIBC Manufacturers and related products.  We currently have 35 fully integrated manufacturers of FIBC and are adding more manufacturers pan India each year. These manufacturers constitute more than 90 % of the organised FIBC sector in India. We are looking forward to celebrating IFIBCA’s 20th anniversary in the year 2024 and 35 years of FIBC’s being manufactured in India in the year 2025.

IFIBCA actively interacts with the government and advises it on policy and business environment issues. It networks with technical institutions, business support organizations, and associations in India and abroad to enable business expansion and information dissemination on technical and commercial developments.

Increasing liberalization all over the world has helped international trade grow by leaps and bounds. It impacts people, not only in the economic sphere but also in the social, political, and cultural spheres making cross-border impacts on the countries. With greater liberalization, IFIBCA’s focus has shifted to professional and value-added services to the FIBC Industry. IFIBCA believes that the Government and the industry need to work together to stimulate manufacturing and catalyze FIBC’s boom that can contribute significantly to the development of India. IFIBCA persistently works to facilitate changes that would strengthen India’s FIBC manufacturing base to make it a leader on the world FIBC map in line with Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign and vision.
