India’s FIBC industry has been impacted with the uncertainties and challenges created by the ongoing Pandemic. Uncertainty in terms of Supply chain disruptions, logistics issues and increased raw material costs due to the fluctuating demand and supply conditions have been a precursor to evolving change. In brief, the entire FIBC value chain has been disrupted but that has not stopped Industry from blazing new trails and creating opportunities where none existed, despite the setbacks. Not to sit on our laurels but we have more work charted out for the near future.  Besides being alert to new opportunities, it is crucial to adapt and adopt the changes to stay on top of the game in order to have a competitive advantage.

IFIBCA’s focus has always been on promoting value-added FIBC manufacturing in India and we have always given due importance to promotion of New Technology, Innovation and Skill Development to enhance the competitiveness of our Industry. I am committed to take swift measures to address the limitless potential in our industry by using technology, automation, robotics and artificial intelligence to bridge the gap.

We were able to hold a Virtual CEO Meet this year with Mr Larry Soffer who is South Africa’s top mentalist and entertainer who enthralled our members and their families alike. It was a truly exciting and memorable experience.

IFIBCA was established in 2004 and for the past 17 years, IFIBCA has been playing a pivotal role to strengthen the domestic as well as international FIBC industry by facilitating the exchange of knowledge, technology transfer and exponentially increasing exports of value-added technical textiles (FIBC) exports from India. We strive to encourage each other to work, network and consolidate the resilient connections we have established across the globe.  We will continue to connect businesses to the global market, empowering business communities and also to reinforce the global FIBC network with our technical expertise & knowledge along with innovation in newer technology and enhanced FIBC products. We continue to sensitise the Government to the FIBC industry’s substantial employment opportunities based on year-on-year growth, export potential and foreign exchange earnings.

Having spent more than two decades in the technical textile industry and having been in the FIBC industry since 2004, I’ve seen this sector when the term ‘technical textile’ was yet to have a formal definition. That said, seeing this sector come of age has been a stupendous experience. After 15 years since our foundation, we proudly dedicate ourselves to continue serving the FIBC manufacturing industry and further strengthening ourselves to become globally competitive. This is reflected in our present membership which includes 32 large & medium integrated manufacturing entities pan-India.

  • Some of the key highlights IFIBCA achieved during my tenure as President.
  • Moving our Registered and Corporate office from Mumbai to Delhi
  • Applying for a 12 A & 80 G Certification from Income Tax department

  • Successfully Requested Government to Increase GST from 5 % to 12 % to reduce the impact of Inverted Duty Structure on Industry

It is a matter of great satisfaction that IFIBCA has maintained focus on its original objective of promoting FIBC’s and has extended its activities to support and join other likeminded associations such as PLEXCONCIL, FIEO and most recently ITTA.  This is a big change as at the time of inception, we were an Industry Body focusing on consolidating the integrated manufacturing industry. During the last 10 years, IFIBCA has made a major thrust for providing business development opportunities to members by focusing on various government policies, International trade & commerce initiatives and export schemes and incentives. WE have also participated in various Indian & International trade fairs and exhibitions.  In the 3rd GC Meeting on the 30th of June 2016 held at the Orchid Hotel, Mumbai, the new Secretary General, appointed was introduced to the members and took over the reins of IFIBCA Secretariat from ASSOCOM a outsourced Secretariat This year we held the CEO Conclave with a focus on Strategy, Growth and Development of both the Industry and the Association in the holy city of Amritsar in November 2017.

It has been a great privilege to serve IFIBCA as the Founder President in 2001 – 2003 and again in 2013 – 2015.

2013 – 2015:

In my second innings as President of IFIBCA a lot of development and progress had taken place in the FIBC Industry and the Association. Within a span of 15 years, today India is the world’s largest FIBC supplying- country. IFIBCA had its office managed by the Assocom in Delhi and Noida. IFIBCA took up matters of common interest to members on various legislations, trade requirements. IFIBCA took the bold initiative to purchase its own office in Nehru Place, New Delhi and held its CEO Meet in Bali, Indonesia. There was an increased cost effectiveness, productivity and multi fold increase in capacity of FIBC’s in India during this period.

Mr. Vikram Pandya

Managing Director
Shankar Packaging’s Ltd
vikram@shankarpack.com

I TOOK OVER THE PRESIDENTSHIP FROM MR. ANIL KUMAR IN 2011 WHEN THE NUMBER OF MEMBERS WAS SIGNIFICANT AND REACHED A THRESHOLD OF 27 MEMBERS. FIBC MANUFACTURING WAS AT A PHASE WHEN GROWTH WAS ROBUST AND IN A FAST CHANGING ENVIRONMENT WHERE COMPETITION BETWEEN INDUSTRIAL ORGANIZATIONS MADE THEM KEEN AND LEAN. ONLY COMPANIES THAT WERE PREPARED TO MOVE WITH THE TIMES ADOPT MODERN PHILOSOPHIES AND TECHNOLOGY WOULD SURVIVE THE CURVE.

IFIBCA STARTED 20 YEARS AGO WITH A CAPACITY 10,000 METRIC TONNES OF FIBC PER YEAR. IN MY TENNUERE AS PRESIDENT WE HAD REACHED  150,000 TONNES PER YEAR AND TEN YEAR LATER ON, TODAY WE ARE  AT 350,00 METRIC TONNES OF FIBC PER YEAR. I AM PROUD TO SHARE THAT INDIA HAS COME OF AGE AND BECOME THE LARGEST MANUFACTURER AND SUPPLIER OF FIBC TO THE GLOBAL MARKET.

I AM ALSO PLEASED TO SHARE THAT BECAUSE OF HARD WORK OF THE FIBC INDUSTRY AND CONSISTENT EFFORTS WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CIRCUMVENT UPSWINGS AND DOWNTURNS. WE CAN LOOK BACK ON STEADY GROWTH OF FIBC’S MARKET IN INDIA AND LOOK FORWARD TO A CONTINUATION OF THIS TREND, THANKS TO INGENUITY AND VERSATILITY OF FIBC AS A PRODUCT.

THE 2ND AND 3RD GENERATION OF ENTREPRENUERS ARE TAKING OVER THE HELM OF LEADERSHIP IN THE FIBC INDUSTRY. TODAY INNOVATION, NEW TECHNOLOGY IS MANTRA TO SUCCESS.

Mr. Anil Kumar

Jumbo Bag Limited

During my 2 tenure as president, IFIBCA membership increased from 20 to 27 member companies. We got Reliance Industries Ltd to agree to fixed price scheme w.e.f August 2010 to enable the industry to hedge itself for its export obligations and this scheme has proved beneficial over the years to give a fillip to FIBC exports.

IFIBCA made representation to commerce ministry successfully for consideration of FIBCs under FPS scheme (subsequently called MEIS) and FIBC exports were made eligible for 2% benefit from January 2011. IFIBCA represented the matter on FIBC Tariff classification to CBEC. IFIBCA also represented against imposition of anti-dumping duty on polypropylene.

2007 - 2009
Mr. Manoj Agarwal

Managing Director
Kanpur Plastipack Ltd
manojagarwal@kanplas.com

It has been a privilege to serve the association in what turned out to be a difficult period for the Industry. The financial world had started to shake in the early parts of 2008 when the housing loan bubble broke in the USA resting with the collapse of the Lehman brothers in September. Crude Oil peaked to $147 a barrel and Price of PP touching a yet to be broken record of $2000 a ton only to slip back to $600 a ton within three months. If there was ever a turbulent time this was it. Thankfully the Indian FIBC industry came out stronger, fitter and soon embarked on a growth curve making it the world leader it is today. I wish the members all the best on this great journey.

2004 – 2007
Mr. S. Ramakrishnan

Managing Director
Transpac Asia Pvt Ltd
ramakrishnan@transpacasia.com

I am happy to note that IFIBCA has crossed 17 years in service of the industry.

I took over the presidentship during 2004 when the number of members in the FIBC community was small. There was a steady growth during this period with new companies joining in. It was a three-year tenure with its own ups and downs. India was number 3 in the manufacturing behind turkey, china during this period. However, by the end of my tenure, India had surpassed turkey to become the number 2 in the export of FIBC industry.

Now am proud to know that India has become the largest manufacturer and supplier of FIBC to the global market.

I am also pleased to note that the next generation of entrepreneurs are taking over the leadership role and am sure this industry is bound to grow. Innovation is the key and is sure the next generation would put all in all efforts to further this endeavor to greater heights.

Wishing all members all the best for 2022. You can always connect with me on my e mail id: ramakrishnan@buildmetfibres.in

President of the Indian Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container Association & past committee member of Plexconcil.  In my tenure as president I have focussed on bringing together more FIBC companies under the IFIBCA umbrella. The phenomenal growth and manufacturing of FIBC Bags has been the driving force for the expansion of the Industry and IFIBCA.  Exports of FIBC bags to new destinations and markets was the new normal.  The FIBC Industry was coming of age and there was great change and development simultaneously taking place.

2001 - 2003
Mr. Ravish Kamath

Chief Executive Officer Big Bags International Pvt Limited ravish@bigbagsinternational.com

He has been president twice in 2001-2003 and again from 2013 – 2015.

2001 – 2003:

The intent of starting IFIBCA was to bring together the 10 FIBC manufacturing industries, establish the Indian FIBC Industry and develop a road map for the ever growing Indian FIBC Industry for exports of world class FIBC Bags. We started the association with a couple of likeminded companies and registered IFIBCA as a Section 25 Company in Mumbai and have grown organically.  During my initial tenure as president, IFIBCA was able to promote the usage of FIBCs in India and act as a catapult to promote FIBCs across the globe. This was period of change in which India had opened its doors to the free market and exploring its nascent potential.
